First Dutch edition of one of the earliest works on mime.
A very important work about German dramtic arts in the 18th Century by J.J. Engel, a Professor and a director of Nationaltheater In Berlin.
The first Dutch translation of the original German edition: 'Ideeen zu einer Mimik', from 1785-86. This is the first edition of this early Dutch translation by J. Konijnenburg of one of the earliest works on mime. The first English translation was published only in 1807.
Illustrated with two identical engraved title vignettes by Reinier Vinkeles and 34 copper engraved plates after Johann Wilhelm Meil.
The beautiful illustrations, showing a wide range of expressive gestures and postures, were newly made for the present Dutch edition.

Collated and complete
Binding with some wear. Joints and spine-ends somewhat affected. Part of morocco label gone. Few plates with small waterstains in the marge. A good and complete copy.
