The original Standing Woman was created by the well known sculptor Gaston Lachaise and is nowadays the best known sculpture of the French American artist. Standing Woman is an attractive nude sculpture that presents the typical characteristics of the female nude figures made by Lachaise: sensual shapes, female hips and pure nudity. This abstract designed bronze figure was handmade and originally created by Lachaise between 1928 and 1930.
Gaston Lachaise was born on March 19, 1882 at Paris, France and already started to pay intention to art and sculpting during his teenage years.
Lachaise who is nowadays known as one of the pioneers of the American Modernism attended the Ecole nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris at he Age of 16; there he learned the techniques of sculpting.
After he met Isabel Dutaud Nagle and felt in love with her, she became his inspiration. He followed her to America, where he gained great success with his sculptures.
Gaston Lachaise was the first artist ever the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art dedicated a retrospective to him while he was still alive.
