Gorefest ‎– Soul Survivor CD PROMO

Probably inspired by Oasis or their idols Carcass/Entombed, Gorefest went straight into Hard Rock/Post-Grunge territory with Soul Survivor: the B tuning has remained, but the riffs are entirely different, and feel more at home on an Alice in Chains/Aerosmith album than on a previously Death Metal band like the Dutch once were. Similarly, even the lyrics treat generic themes of freedom and individualism, and the vocals feels more like drunk, rude bellowing than the famous death vocals they employed previously, though fans of “Death, funeral metal” may be the only who may appreciate them. The album is not only catchy (even more than the uninspired Erase), but also enjoyable and a fine alternative to Alice in Chains. Of note is the closing ballad “Dragon Man”.
