- RIFT -
photographed by Lotte Ekkel
By working with reclaimed furniture, I reshape used materials into new forms, allowing them to become their most powerful selves
(@Pascalstraat 17, Haarlem)
—
This design began with a search for a form in which the split in the tabletop would not feel like an addition, but as something inevitable within the logic of the table itself.
During the drawing process, shifts, openings and subtle offsets slowly emerged throughout the design. The tabletop began to lift above the construction. The balance between lightness and structural weight became the guiding idea of the form.
In the workshop, the making unfolded as if each step naturally followed the next. Only near the end did the design begin to resist. When the table was first placed on its legs, it lacked stability.
Two subtle pieces of oak were added between the legs. What first felt like a compromise turned out to be essential in the making of ‘RIFT’.
The table became a quiet but solid presence.
