Model 56 Extendable Dining Table, Villy Schou Andersen, Denmark, 1960s
Designed by Villy Schou Andersen and produced in Denmark during the 1960s, the Model 56 dining table reflects the quiet elegance that defines much of Scandinavian furniture from the period. Its clean, architectural silhouette is softened by gently rounded ends, a finely profiled solid oak edge and slender tapered legs, creating a balanced composition that feels both light and substantial.
The tabletop is veneered in carefully selected oak, displaying a warm honey-toned colour with a calm, consistent grain pattern across the surface. The solid oak edging follows the oval outline with precision, framing the top while providing visual depth and durability. The two extension leaves integrate seamlessly into the design, allowing the table to transition naturally from its compact form to a generous dining table without disrupting its restrained appearance.
Every proportion has been carefully considered. The slim underframe keeps the construction visually unobtrusive, while the gently tapered legs reinforce the table's refined character and provide generous legroom. Whether used as a round table for everyday dining or fully extended for larger gatherings, the design retains its sense of balance and simplicity.
The table has been carefully cleaned, fully inspected and professionally restored in our workshop. The oak has been treated with a high-quality furniture oil, enriching the natural warmth of the timber while preserving its original character. It remains in excellent vintage condition with only honest signs of age and use consistent with its history.
