Catherine Opie is best known for taking warm, intimate photographs of her community in Los Angeles. Throughout her career, she’s also shot series that focus on Southern California architecture and the possessions of film star Elizabeth Taylor.
She has exhibited in New York, London, Los Angeles, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Copenhagen, among other cities. Her work belongs in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the Tate, the Whitney Museum of American Art. Photographers like Nan Goldin, Martin Parr, William Wegman, Robert Capa and Elliot Erwitt, are amongst the artists who have published photographs with Magnum/Aperture organization.
