Portrait of Franciscus "Franz" Cornelius Donders. Born 27 May 1818 in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Died 24 March 1889 in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
Wood engraving by Richard Brend'amour (1831-1915), after L. Heitland (fl. 19thC), c. 1890. Reasonable condition. Paper slightly browned and a bit soiled, with some minor, faint staining. Some creasing. Edges very slightly ragged. A small tear in the margin in the upper left corner (not affecting the image). Verso: Dutch text. Note: dimensions reflect the entire leaf. Dimensions: 310 x 220 mm.
Franciscus "Franz" Cornelius Donders was Professor, Fellow of the Royal Society, Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Physiologist, Member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, Ophthalmologist, Director of the Netherlands Hospital for Eye Patients, Professor of physiology at the University of Utrecht, One of the primary founders of scientific ophthalmology, and Professor of anatomy at the University of Utrecht.
