Portrait of Hugo Grotius. Born 10 April 1583 in Delft, The Netherlands. Died 28 August 1645 in Rostock, Germany.

Lithography by Carel Christiaan Anthony Last (1808-1876), c. 1850. Reasonable condition. Paper a bit soiled, with overalls potting. Folds probably as issued. Verso: blank. Mounted onto a modern album leaf. Note: dimensions reflect the entire leaf, excluding the mount. Note: a curious portrait of Grotius, showing also the portraits of Maria van Reigersberch (1589 - 1653), Rombout Hogerbeets (1561 - 1625), Carolus Niellius (1576 - 1652) and Eduard Poppius (c. 1576 - 1624). Among the portraits are interior images of the rooms in Loevestein Castle where they were held captive. Dimensions: 211 x 291 mm.
