Jean-Baptiste Sécheret (born in 1957)The work of Jean-Baptiste Sécheret makes a large place for the landscape. His compositions tightened on the motif give it a strong and monumental presence. His treatment of color and light are inseparable. The artist favors the contrasting twilight lights that evoke Edward Hopper and the silent squares of Chirico. The Académie des Beaux-Arts saluted his work in printmaking in 2013 by awarding him the Mario Avati prize for the first time.

Jean-Baptiste Sécheret lives and works in Paris, where he devotes most of his time to painting and printmaking. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he was also a boarder at the prestigious Casa Velázquez in Madrid. His work is deeply influenced by Spanish artistic heritage, in particular the influence of Antonio López García. Light plays a central role. Sécheret likes to repeat the motif, often objects taken from everyday life, taking a contemplative approach to his subjects. His work is characterized by a certain slowness and an invitation to wander, without narrative intent. His architectural compositions, inspired by the Old Masters, adopt a figuration that empties space and stops time.
