Michel DesRochers werd op 1 maart 1938 geboren in Joly de Lotbinière, een klein dorpje in de buurt van Quebec City, Canada. Na zijn studie aan het College in Rouyn, Quebec, vertrok Michel in 1957 naar Toronto om parttime tekenen en schilderen te studeren aan het Ontario College of Art. Gedurende deze tijd werkte hij op de kunstafdeling van Simpson-Sears, waar hij mode en grafische vormgeving studeerde. Daar bleef hij de daaropvolgende vijf jaar ook beeldhouwkunst studeren bij Augustin Filipovic (1931-1998), hoogleraar aan de Academie van Rome. In 1963 reisde Michel een jaar naar Europa en werd bij zijn terugkeer naar Canada art director van een warenhuis in Quebec City. In 1968 keerde hij terug naar Toronto, waar hij getrouwd was, en werkte tot 1969 zelfstandig in de grafische en reclamewereld. Michel reisde vervolgens naar Engeland, waar hij fulltime schilderde in East Anglia en deelnam aan vele tentoonstellingen, waaronder de Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, die ook te zien was bij de Royal Society of Marine Artists in Londen met solotentoonstellingen in Gainsborough's House Gallery in Sudbury, Suffolk; Medici Gallery in Londen en werd door Lady Fermoy uitgenodigd voor een solotentoonstelling in haar Fermoy Art Gallery in Kings Lynn, Norfolk. Hij had ook verschillende solotentoonstellingen in de Simon Carter Gallery in Woodbridge en in de toen net opgerichte Smiths Row Art Gallery in het voormalige stadhuis van Bury St Edmund, beide in Suffolk. Veel van zijn werken werden aangekocht door verzamelaars, waaronder het Maritiem Museum in Greenwich, Londen, in opdracht van Sir Nicholas Cayzer en Sir Edmund Joly de Lotbiniere, beiden inwoners van Suffolk. De gemeente Bury St Edmund's gaf opdracht tot het maken van diverse topografische werken, waaronder 'Windmill' (1970). In 1980 schilderde hij aquarellen in Frankrijk van lokale taferelen in de Hérault en werd hij uitgenodigd om deel te nemen aan een groepstentoonstelling met aquarellen van grote Franse kunstenaars in Galerie Feille, Clairac, in de Lot-et-Garonne. Zijn werken maken deel uit van enkele belangrijke Europese collecties, waaronder die van Madame Danielle Mitterand, de echtgenote van de overleden president van Frankrijk. In september 1987 keerden Michel en zijn vrouw Marion terug naar Canada en vestigden zich in Sooke op Vancouver Island, British Columbia, om een galerie te openen. Michel exposeerde meerdere malen op de jaarlijkse Fine Art Show in Sooke, en in 1995 werd een serie schilderijen aangekocht door Pacific Coast Savings voor hun nieuw gebouwde vestiging.

Michel DesRochers was born at Joly de Lotbiniere, a small village near Quebec City, Canada, on 1 March 1938. After studies at College in Rouyn, Quebec, in 1957 Michel went to Toronto to study drawing and painting part-time, at the Ontario College of Art. During this time, he worked in the Art Department of Simpson-Sears, learning fashion art and graphics and where he remained for the next five years also studying sculpture with Augustin Filipovic (1931-1998), a professor from the Academy of Rome. In 1963, Michel travelled to Europe for a year and on his return to Canada became Art Director in a department store in Quebec City. In 1968 he returned to Toronto, having married, and worked in graphics and advertising on his own account until 1969. Michel then travelled to England, painting full-time in East Anglia and taking part in many exhibitions, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition also showing at the Royal Society of Marine Artists in London with one-man shows at Gainsborough's House Gallery, Sudbury, Suffolk; Medici Gallery, London and being invited by Lady Fermoy to have a one-man show at her Fermoy Art Gallery in Kings Lynn, Norfolk. He also had several solo exhibitions at Simon Carter Gallery, Woodbridge and at the then newly established Smiths Row Art Gallery in Bury St Edmund's former Town Hall, both in Suffolk. Many of his works were purchased by collectors, including by the Maritime Museum at Greenwich, London with commissions from Sir Nicholas Cayzer and Sir Edmund Joly de Lotbiniere, both Suffolk residents, with the Borough of Bury St Edmund's commissioned and purchased various topographical works including 'Windmill' (1970). In 1980 he painted watercolours in France of the local scenes around the area of Hérault and was invited to participate in a group show of watercolours of major French artists at Galerie Feille, Clairac, in the Lot et Garonne. His works forms part of some major European collections, including by Madame Danielle Mitterand, the wife of the late President of France. In September 1987, Michel, and his wife Marion, returned to Canada and settled in Sooke on Vancouver Island, British Columbia to open a gallery and Michel has shown several times at the annual Fine Art Show in Sooke, and in 1995 a series of paintings were purchased by Pacific Coast Savings for their newly constructed branch.
