A beautiful 17th century Flemish painting from the circle of Abraham Janssens, an important Baroque painter from the Southern Netherlands. This work shows an intimate and moving scene of the Madonna and Child, painted on an oak panel consisting of two planks.
The influence of Janssens is clearly visible in the soft bright-obscur lighting, the elegant composition and the rich color tones. The serene facial expressions of Mary and the Christ Child contribute to the spiritual and tender appearance of the painting.
Condition: The painting has undergone old restorations and practical traces of age, which are past the age of the work. See the photos for your own assessment.
