Charles Theunissen received his artistic training at the Academy of Antwerp, but after that classical training he immersed himself in landscape painting.
Initially, he immersed himself in rural life in Limburg and the Kempen landscape.
Gradually he evolves from realism to a post-impressionism influenced by Van Gogh, which bears witness to a particularly rich color palette. The latter is particularly reflected in the works he makes when he settles in the vicinity of Watermael Bosvoorde in the Brussels outskirts.

This work testifies to the richness of color that is characteristic of Theunissen's oeuvre.
