A surrealistic fable, both comic and moving.’ When a couple in their fifties - both city people - get a windfall of an inheritance, they abruptly leave Manhattan for the country, a couple of hours up the Hudson.
The house they move into rests on a 1910 apartment building, and Walter begins excavating, while Sara, suddenly unblocked as an artist, documents his activities in her paintings while fending off a barrage of curious onlookers.
Walter and Sara Simm, in their fifties, move to the country, where Walter--to increasing media attention--excavates a utopian apartment complex and Sara records his progress in her paintings.
After coming into a sizable inheritance, Walter and Sara Simon leave Manhattan for the country. The house they move into rests over a long-forgotten monument to Atlantis, and Walter begins excavating. The novel swirls, takes sudden and fast leaps, moves backward and forward in time, and shifts perspective.
Publishers Weekly: found the work marked by ‘wit, shrewdness, energy and buoyancy.’
