Classic Bike Magazine van november 2016.
Uit de inhoud:
We had all read about Kenny Roberts in the American magazines, but the first time we actually saw him race was during the 1974 Trans-Atlantics.
He arrived in Britain alongside his Yamaha USA team-mate Gene Romero, armed with their fearsome TZ750s — two characters as colourful as their yellow and black Yamahas.
The speed block livery was not new even then, but seeing them tear around our home circuits — Brands Hatch, Mallory Park and Oulton Park — felt truly special, as if they raced there every weekend.
Kenny soon became “The King”, and the yellow and black speed blocks evolved into an iconic emblem that helped define 1970s motorcycle sport — across road racing, dirt track and motocross.
Yamaha went on to use the speed block imagery to market its road bikes, and to this day custom builders around the world continue to faithfully recreate the famous racing livery.
As a result, the memory of that fantastic era of racing continues to burn as brightly as those buzzing yellow bees did back in the seventies.
We hope you enjoy reading this as much as we enjoyed creating it.
