Beschrijving

With this new magazine, I invite the reader to follow the training, the fights and the end of a unit that knew how to show its abilities. With the help of the testimonies of the many veterans of this regiment whom I was able to meet, as well as those of their Commanders, Hans Bünning and Günter Bernau, the history of this artillery regiment of this division with European recruitment will be presented in this book. I would like to thank all those men who told me, in writing or orally, about their struggles and their lives in this unit, especially the Flemish men Roger van Houtte, Gilbert Coppieters, Albert Ensch and Jan Vincx.
Armoured arms and aviation have always been put forward in the explanation of the victories due to the Blitzkrieg, but artillery also played a major role in the new combat configurations during the Second World War. Its motorization will provide it with the mobility necessary for the modernization of the conflict. With this magazine, the reader will be able to understand how much the support of the artillery helped and relieved the infantrymen, especially when masses of enemies were swooping down on them. The support of the artillery will be shown by highlighting the efforts of everyone, from the gunner to the truck driver supplying ammunition. The Wiking division is a particular example of this, especially since its first Kommandeur, H.O. Gille, will become the Kommandeur of the division, to end up Kdr of the IV. SS-Panzerkorps and will be decorated with oak leaves, swords and diamonds at his Ritterkreuz.
