Updating a 1960s series that teamed the kid sidekicks of DC's grown-up superheroes, The New Teen Titans was one of the most popular comic books of the 1980s. The characters were aged slightly from their sixties avatars, and a few original, new ones were added to fight beside Robin, Wonder Girl, and Kid Flash. Intended as an analogue of Marvel's phenomenally successful X-Men, the series rivaled its competitor's success thanks to Wolfman's scripts, effective mixtures of action and soap opera, and fan-favorite artist George Perez's meticulously detailed drawing.
