Retaining the style of its previous editions, this text presents the theory, computational aspects, and applications of vibrations in as simple a manner as possible. With an emphasis on computer techniques of analysis, it gives expanded explanations of the fundamentals, focusing on physical significance and interpretation that build upon students' previous experience. Each self-contained topic fully explains all concepts and presents the derivations with complete details. Numerous examples and problems illustrate principles and concepts. Several new features have been introduced, many new topics are added and some topics are modified and rewritten in this edition. Most of the additions and modifications were suggested by those who have used the text and by several reviewers. The examples and problems based on C++ and Fortran programs, given in the fourth edition of the book, have been deleted. Some important changes should be noted: Chapter outline and learning objectives are stated at the beginning of each chapter. Chapter summary is given at the end of each chapter. The presentation of some of the topics is modified for expanded coverage and better clarity. These include the discussion on the basic components of vibration - spring elements, damping elements and mass or inertia elements, vibration isolation, and active vibration control. Many new topics are added with detailed presentation and illustrative examples.
