"Cricklewood Green" was originally released in 1970, at a time when Ten Years After was riding a wave of international success following their spectacular performance at Woodstock. Led by Alvin Lee’s lightning-fast guitar riffs, the band had quickly evolved from a traditional blues group into one of the most exciting and commercially successful acts on the British rock scene of the late 1960s. This album reflects that transformation, blending their Chicago blues roots with harder rock, boogie rhythms, and early progressive influences. Recorded at a time when studio experimentation was becoming increasingly important in rock music, “Cricklewood Green” shows how the band moved beyond its reputation as a live act to explore more complex and experimental territory. The hit single “Love Like a Man” became a defining track of this era, achieved chart success, and solidified the group’s reputation on both sides of the Atlantic.
This reissue has been remastered at Air Mastering and restores the album’s original power and nuance. In addition to the album, the second CD features a newly mixed recording by Charlie Russell of their second set at Fillmore East on Friday, February 27, 1970, which fully showcases the band’s sheer power. The CD features a selection of rarities, the highlight being a newly discovered “Cricklewood Jam” demo recorded during the album sessions that has never been heard before. At the heart of the package are newly written liner notes by Nigel Williamson, featuring interviews with band members and previously unpublished photos.

“... driving rhythm sections [...] crisp organ sounds [...] the often rapidly fired-off guitar licks [...] came together to form a cohesive whole. To which sound engineer Andy Johns [.] skillfully wove in contributions that were anything but insignificant [.], more so than was the case with many comparable recordings of that era.« (GoodTimes, August/September 2026)
