IPN2220 is INPROCOMM's another addition of AirConnTM family of wireless LAN solutions – an IEEE 802.11g low cost, high-performance baseband-MAC (BB-MAC) IC with feature-rich security functions integrated into both hardware and software for optimal system performance.

The IPN2220 features include INPROCOMM's novel BB architecture and algorithm design, which is designed for severe multi-path fading and narrow-band interference environments, special channel estimation and phase-timing tracking, analog-to-digital (ADC) and digital-to-analog (DAC) converters, and an automatic gain control (AGC) servo loop to control the radio AGC.

The MAC supports Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) and HCF Controlled Channel Access (HCCA) and is a hardwired design, which minimizes die size and current consumption relative to CPU-based solutions. Additionally, multicast functions and queue management are enhanced in this product beyond the IEEE standard to serve applications requiring a high-level of quality-of-service (QoS) as well as public wireless LAN services.

The IPN2220 has a fully integrated BB and MAC and supports a feature-rich set of security functions that include: 64/128/152-bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP), Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP), Wi-Fi TM Protected Access (WPA), Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX), and Advanced Encryption Standard (AES-CCMP). It's "Turbo" function can improve 35% of performance. IPN2220 BB-MAC has passed WPA and Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) certification.

The production-ready IC has been designed to work with several radios and power amplifiers (PAs) from industry-leading IC manufacturers, thereby meeting customers requirements for best-in-class performance versus cost. The IPN2220 supports three host interfaces – Cardbus, mini-PCI, and PCI, and is a highly integrated, high performance, low power ASIC housed in a TFBGA-160 pin package. INPROCOMM understands the need for smart power management and has integrated various features that minimize the total system power consumption.
