• (HIGHEST PRIORITY) I’m looking for a family that already has a ring-necked parakeet, so Perets can have a true friend and live surrounded by his own kind.
• I am not in a hurry to rehome him — I truly love him and care deeply about where he goes.
• I am not looking for a family without prior experience in proper parrot care.
• I am not looking for a home with small children, as parrots are not toys.
• I am not looking for a home with cats or dogs.
• I am not looking for a place where he would be kept in a dirty aviary or used for uncontrolled breeding.

Six years ago, a wonderful ring-necked parakeet came into our lives. Four years ago, we brought him with us from Kyiv, Ukraine, to our new home in the Netherlands. He is truly sweet and very intelligent, but I can see that he deeply misses having a companion. He searches for one in objects like bells, balls, or even his reflection. It breaks my heart to watch, and I genuinely believe he deserves the best life possible — among his own kind.
We were close to finding him a mate/girlfriend to give him that better life, but recently I suffered a personal loss that left me in deep grief and exhaustion. I realize that I won’t be able to make that plan happen. I cannot let selfish feelings keep him alone without a friend/girlfriend, so with a heavy heart — but with full understanding of what’s best for him — I’ve decided to find him a new family. A home where he will be surrounded by care, and love from both his new owner and other parrots of his kind.

A few details:

• His name is Peper (from our language it sounds like Perets’), and he knows his name.
• He is about 6.5 years old.
• He is partially hand-tamed: he sits on your head, shoulder, or hand, but he may bite fingers or palms.
• His favorite treat is walnuts (he gets them rarely and always asks for them near the shelf where they are kept).
• In addition to Prestige seeds, he eats apples, tomatoes, cucumbers, pears, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, blueberries, raspberries, peppers, buckwheat, wild rice, bananas, cooked egg yolk (very rarely and in tiny pieces, but he loves it), grapes, soaked mung beans (never regular beans!), and sweet potato.
• He knows several words, such as peekaboo, ookay, hello-hello (russian: privet-privet), which-which (rus: kakoy-kakoy), go to walk (rus: gulyat’ poydyom), and some funny sounds like ehehehehe, ik-ik-ik and muaah (sound of a kiss).
• He can be loud at times and, especially when stressed, may refuse to go into his cage at night — sometimes he has to be gently caught to go to sleep.
• We’ve visited an avian vet regularly, and overall he is as healthy as a pet parrot can be.

I wish him the best possible life with another ring-necked parrot like himself. Sadly, due to the recent events in my life, I can no longer make that happen. Some things change us forever, and I must accept that.
