The self-propelled guns of the "Marder" III type were created as a result of using the PzKpfw 38(t) light tanks. The 7.62 cm Pak 36(r) L/54.8 Fgst auf PzKpfw 38(t) gun – Sd Kfz 139 "Marder" III was built on the chassis of the PzKpfw 38(t) Ausf. G tanks and using special Ausf. H chassis. Later, vehicles were created armed with 7.5 cm Pak 40/2 L/45 guns of caliber 75 mm (Ausf. H). "Marder" III were the main equipment of self-propelled anti-tank artillery units in the years 1942–1945. They were used in combat until the end of the war
