The Poem chair was originally designed in 1977 by Noboru Nakamura and was renamed to Poäng in 1992.
The design is based on the Artek Armchair 406 designed by Alvar Aalto in 1939.
A limited edition was made by Ikea in 1999 as a tribute to the original design by Alvar Aalto. This Poang armchair was launched exactly 60 years after the unveiling of the original design by Alvar Aalto. The woven strips approach the original design of the Artek Armchair 406 perfectly.
According to designer Noboru Nakamura, the best design brings movement to life. Nakamura discovered that if you sit on a bent plywood frame, you can rock it slightly on the chair. And according to Ikea's catalog, the frame follows the contours of your body and supports your lower back and neck, so you can relax comfortably.
