José Ramírez 1A Flamenco Guitar — Madrid, 1975
We are offering a José Ramírez 1A flamenco guitar, handcrafted in Madrid in 1975 — a true historical piece from one of the most prestigious Spanish luthiers.
This particular guitar features a cedar top, which is quite unusual for flamenco guitars, offering a warmer, more rounded sound while retaining the necessary brightness for flamenco. The back and sides are made of cypress, the neck is cedar, and the fingerboard is ebony. The guitar is built with the traditional José Ramírez bracing, providing excellent projection and responsiveness.
Specifications:
Top: Cedar
Back & Sides: Cypress
Neck: Cedar
Fingerboard: Ebony
Bracing: Traditional José Ramírez
Scale Length: 65 cm
Action: 2.8 mm — very comfortable
Weight: Approximately 1200g — lightweight and authentic feel
Tuners: Original peghead tuners (palo de rosa), enhancing its traditional aesthetic and flamenco authenticity
Condition:
The guitar has two superficial lacquer cracks on the top — these are not structural cracks in the wood, but merely in the finish. They have been professionally filled and stabilized, purely cosmetic and without impact on the sound or stability. The guitar is in very good condition, with all parts original, including the tuners.
A Flamenco Legacy:
This is a classic example of the Ramírez 1A flamenco that has been favored by some of the greatest flamenco legends. While the 1A model is more commonly associated with classical music through Andrés Segovia, flamenco greats such as Tomatito, Paco de Lucía, Sabicas, and many others have played similar Ramírez guitars in their careers.
If you're a flamenco guitarist or collector looking for a historic, high-quality Spanish guitar, this instrument is definitely worth experiencing in person.
About José Ramírez V:
José Ramírez V (1953–2000) was part of the legendary Ramírez dynasty of luthiers based in Madrid. As the great-grandson of the founder, José Ramírez I, he continued the family's world-renowned craftsmanship, especially focusing on refining the classical and flamenco models that made the brand famous worldwide. Under his direction, the workshop preserved the traditions of Spanish guitar making while introducing subtle innovations in sound and construction. Guitars from this period are highly valued for their tonal richness, power, and artisan quality.
