Travis Bean Designs TB500B - Okoumé

The resurrection of the fabled TB500B bass of which only 1 prototype was fully completed in the original Travis Bean workshop in the late 1970s. Some unfinished/unused parts were left over when TB went out of business, and most of these eventually ended up in the hands of Kevin Burkett of Electrical Guitar Company, and as most of you looking at this will know, EGC over time received the blessing of Travis Bean's estate and partnered up with Marc McElwee (Travis' right hand man back in the '70s) to launch Travis Bean Designs. Based on the original spec parts, EGC/TBD now finally offers a production model 500B bass for the first time ever, as this model sadly never made it to the production line in the '70s.

I purchased this new from Chicago Music Exchange in late 2023 as a backup for my other 500B. I have played 1 show and several rehearsals with it, but I'm now letting this one go because I prefer Beans with the painted necks (my other 500B does have the coating on the neck, otherwise they are very much alike).

For those of you familiar with the TB2000 sounds, this 1 TB single coil pickup in the sweet spot has a bit more 'girth' to it than the TB2000 bridge pickup solo'd and at the same time a bunch less 'woofiness' to the tone that the TB2000 neck pickup has when solo'd. Output on TB2000 basses is usually hotter on the bridge pickup than on the neck pickup, and the 500B's output is more like a TB2000 bridge pickup's output level.
