1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom 20th Anniversary Black Ebony

This is a very nice and rare 20th Anniversary Gibson Les Paul Custom without any cracks, breaks or repairs and the original Pat.No. stamped Humbucker pickups, pots date 1377437, capacitors, wiring, untouched solder, pickguard, bridge, stoptail, knobs etc.

At some point it had Grovers on it but currently a set of very nice repro waffle back tuners are on. Also the bridge pickup cover is a replacement and both pickup covers have been off as was the fashion few decades back. The back of the neck was sanded softly to make it less sticky and then wiped with some cleaning liquid which lights up different under UV light. We're sure that with some TLC it will be easy to remove from the top layer original finish. The back of the headstock/neck has a small "smiley" line which seems superficial and in the lacquer only, just beneath some sticker residue remains. UV however doesnt show any cracks, breaks or repairs. Comes in the original pebble black Gibson Les Paul hardshell case with pink plush lining in reasonable condition, 1 latch is broken.

And with only 4.5Kg this is not a featherweight Les Paul but for a Norlin ERA bomb this is to be considered one of the better weight Les Paul's!

According to Tony Bacon's book it occurred to Gibson in 1974 that it was 20 years since the first Les Paul Custom had appeared, so they celebrated by issuing a Custom with a Twentieth Anniversary inlay at the 15th fret, in place of the normal blank position marker. This was Gibson's first anniversary model, and it proved to be very successful. It is clear that this guitar established a marketing trend for other anniversary models to follow. The 20th anniversary Les Paul Custom is typical of an early 70's Norlin model. It has a pancake (3 piece) body, gold hardware, volute, witch hat knobs, ABR-1 bridge, ebony fretboard, 3-piece mahogany neck, thin binding in the cutaway, 6 digit serial number, and "Made in USA" stamp on the back of the headstock.
