Anyone called for a bag full of MOJO?
This guitar has that 60's American classic Chevrolet Bel Air and Aerospace vibe all over it. Made by Valco in Chicago - who also made other popular brands like Supro and National - the Arline guitars were originally sold through the Montgomery Ward catalog. These little moon-rockets are absolutely killer when driven and played aggressively. It's very Jack White-ish and they're also famous for being used by The Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach. And this particular Airline was used by a famous French musician who used to play in Johnny Hallyday's band.
These are not guitars that are best played clean, although they do have a respectable, somewhat relaxed, late-'50s clean sort of tone to them and you can actually pull-off a bit of retro jazz/blues tone when you've got the amp clean and loud. These are best played on the brink of destruction with a cooking amp. They sound agressive, punchy, gnarly and powerfull. Just the way it looks!
The guitar has its original 3 pickups, pots, electronics, tuners, Bigsby, most knobs (2 knobs replaced), pickguard which has a crack repaired near the master volume knob) etc. The bridge was replaced by something ugly but the previous owner had it replaced by a beautiful rosewood bridge handmade by luthier Willem Oostendorp, who also performed a refret and handmade a new nut. The neck and body have the original finish except for where it was worn to the bare wood. This baby was played!!! Cool thing to be found is at the back of the heel where you find two chrome covers. These hide two bolts underneath: the upper bolt mounts the neck tight to the body and fixes into a threaded insert in the neck itself. The lower bolt sets the neck angle and adjusts the overall action height. The pickup selector is 3-way individual pickup selector and there's tone and volume for each single pickup (!!!) as well as a master volume knob. But as you can imagine it sounds best wide-open with everything turned up yo the max and then some... Just Rock It!!
Killer guitar for a great price, this legend is supposed to be played on every stage downtown center and it's up to you to make that happen. No case included.
