The best strat I have ever played - here is a very rare, 100% original 1989 SCHECTER ST-UC430 with a highly figured solid 2-piece Quilt Maple body, figured maple neck, and includes an original hard case and catalogue page (inside the case).
SCHECTER Guitar Research is an American brand that was founded by David Schecter in the 1970s and has led the component guitar industry since its inception despite many twists and turns. (Although it is now a subsidiary of ESP, it is a separate company and is still a long-established brand with a factory and custom shop in the United States.)
This Schecter guitar is one of the earlist models produced under ESP ownership and was assembled in the Japan factory. I am the second owner of this instrument - the original owner had purchased it in Tokyo in 1990 for 430,000 JPY and the guitar sat in its case mostly unplayed for the next 35 years. It is in near mint condition. Based off my research and information received from the past owner, while the guitar was assembled in Japan, it largely appears to be USA-made parts (the neck and pickups were definitely made by Schecter USA Van Nuys, while the body is either USA or PGM (an ESP subsidiary) made).
Before acquiring this guitar from a botique high-end guitar store in Tokyo (Bottom's Up Guitars), it was kept in a guitar storage room as a collection, only played a few times, and is truly a closet classic, NOS, or dead stock. Some of the gold hardware has not been polished to prevent the plating from peeling off (← knobs, boat-shaped jack, neck plate, etc.), but the peg buttons and bridge have been cleaned and finished nicely. (It has been set up with Elixir Nanoweb 09-42 regular tuning) There is no twist in the neck, the truss rod and circuit are fine, and the frets are fully intact as it has hardly been played. (There are pick scratches on the pickguard as if it had been played a few times. Also, the entire body is shiny, but it is an excellent product with only slight dents that can be found by holding it up to the light.)
The prior owner determined that it was 1989 based on the POT DATE, but it may have been released on the market in 1990 when he purchased it. The neck is made of figured maple with a flat grain, and is stable as it has been made for over 35 years. The actual measurements are 41mm wide at the nut, 51mm wide at the 12th fret, and 55mm at the neck end. In addition, the sides of the fingerboard are rounded along with the fret edges, making it very easy to hold and play. The thickness is also a slightly thin U-shape, so there is no catching on the skunk stripes, and it is extremely playable.
The pickups are three original USA Monster Tone pickups hand wound by David Schecter. They are equipped with a 5-way PU Selector, Master Volume, Master Tone (0.02μF), and a POT that artificially drops the PU from humbucker to single. In any case, it is resistant to noise, and I think you will be amazed at how clear, unobtrusive, and powerful? And how delicate?... What is this!? Hmm! The sound is great!!!
In this day and age, it would be impossible to make one unless it was close to 1 million yen. No, it would be impossible to manufacture it as a catalog model. All-quilted maple body and one-piece maple neck... Carved brass bridge (and saddle), monster tone PU wrapped in copper foil... This is a dream guitar from the good old days. And it's in time machine condition. Please add it to your guitar collection.
