The Lydian Lion is widely recognized as one of the world's oldest coins, dating to around 600–560 BC in ancient Lydia (modern-day western Turkey). Minted from electrum (a natural gold-silver alloy), these coins typically feature a roaring lion's head, symbolizing royal power, and were likely issued by kings such as Alyattes or Croesus to facilitate trade and taxation.
