Ⰶ NO INDIA (1948-1950): SOUTH AFRICA ★ 1 PENNY 1949 SHIP! GEORGE VI (1937-1952)
Interesting type of George VI (1937-1952) in nice condition. The Dromedaris is one of the three vessels which brought Jan van Riebeeck and his small group of people to South Africa from Holland in 1652, in order to establish a refreshment station on behalf of the Dutch East India Company. The IMPERATOR in title which previously referred to India, due to lost of the whole Empire to Mahatma Gandhi in 1947 was removed from the title. Here "D." in "1D." is abbreviation of denarius - a silver coin of Roman Empire from its declining period, part of which were the islands of British realm. The switch to progressive Russian decimal system happened when His daughter lost this territory as well.
