Ⰶ OWL & KARAISKAKIS (1782-1827): GREECE ★ 2 DRACHMAS 1973-1986 PHOENIX & GUNS COMPLETE SET!
Interesting complete set of all 7 coins in attractive condition of big size. Later the 2 drachmas coins became small due to standard for country with uncontrolled economy inflation. At the beginning of getting rid of hunta and kings the obverse depicted phoenix as symbol of revival of the territory. It was introduced by humans in prehistoric times to describe observations of total solar eclipse as rebirth of the solar god. Starting from 1976 the design switched to portrait of Georgios Karaiskakis (1782-1827), a famous Greek klepht, armatolos, military commander, and a hero of the Greek War of Independence. The set includes three coins of 1976, 1978 and 1980 in old spelling "ΔΡΑΧΜΑΙ" of drachmas and three coins of 1982, 1984 and 1986 in new spelling "ΔΡΑΧΜΕΣ" of drachmas.
