Ⰶ ERROR MILLENNIUM: GREAT BRITAIN ★ BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED COIN COLLECTION 1999! JUST PUBLISHED!

Interesting original issue of the Royal Mint celebrated the last coins of the twentieth century with the 2 pounds commemorative on Rugby World Cup in Wales 1 October – 6 November 1999. The set includes 2 pence in bronze instead of copper plated steel planchets as well as 10 (Rev. die B) and 20 pence which were not issued into circulation. Moreover, the coins 1 penny in bronze instead of copper plated steel planchets (Rev. die Bb) and commemorative 1 pound with the rampant lion of Scotland with the next portrait of Her Majesty are the only types, they were issued in 1999 only and never released to circulation. All these together with tiny mintage (just 136696 pcs) make this set a key date in the Great Britain collections. Chronologically it was a scandalous mistake of the Royal Mint, for the new century came on 2001, that is in two years, and it was completely impossible to celebrate the last coins of twentieth century in 1999, when the last year was 2000. For high interest of collectors to this intriguing issue it was decided to publish the coin set in the article N№21800 of Numista catalog with images of this very brilliant uncirculated set.
