België en Nederland waren in het jaar 2000 gastheer van het UEFA Europees Kampioenschap voetbal. Het toernooi EURO 2000™ vindt plaats van 10 juni tot en met 2 juli 2000. Het is voor het eerst in de geschiedenis dat 2 landen gezamenlijk gastheer zijn van dit grote evenement.
Ter ere van EURO 2000™ geven Nederland en België gezamenlijk speciale herdenkingsmunten uit; in Nederland een bijzondere uitvoering van de vijfguldenmunt, in België twee 50 Frankstukken, één met Nederlandstalig en één met Franstalig opschrift. Deze unieke set bevat niet alleen de Nederlandse- en Belgische munten, maar ook een unieke penning die speciaal ter gelegenheid van dit historische evenement ontworpen is. De penning is uitneembaar: het binnenste gedeelte is geslagen bij de Koninklijke Munt van België en de buitenring bij de Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt. Met de uitklapbare blister lijkt het of de penning als bal in het doel wordt geplaatst.

2000 UNIQUE COIN SET THE NETHERLANDS – BELGIUM EURO 2000™ *BU*

Belgium and the Netherlands were hosting the UEFA European Football Championship in the year 2000. The EURO 2000™ tournament took place from June 10 to July 2, 2000. This is the first time in history that 2 countries jointly host this major event.
In honor of EURO 2000™, the Netherlands and Belgium are jointly issuing special commemorative coins; in the Netherlands a special edition of the five guilder coin, in Belgium two 50 Franc coins, one with Dutch-language and one with French-language lettering. This unique set includes not only the Dutch and Belgian coins, but also a unique medal specially designed to commemorate this historic event. The token is removable: the inner ring was struck at the Royal Mint of Belgium and the outer ring at the Royal Dutch Mint. With the fold-out blister, the medal looks like a ball placed in the goal.
