Challenge Coin of 4 Special Forces Regiment.
4 Special Forces Regiment of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is responsible for the execution of Special Forces Operations, including Counter Terror Operations, primarily in the waterborne and urban milieu, by means of overt and clandestine methods with the aid of specially equipped soldiers.
With effect from 1 September 1995 the unit became known as 4 Special Forces Regiment. Formerly known as 4 Reconnaissance Commando within the South African Defence Force (SADF) (Afrikaans: Suid-Afrikaanse Weermag)
It came into being on 17 juli 1978 with Malcolm Kinghorn as the Officer Commanding and Chilly DuPlessis as the Regimental Sergeant Major.
During the years the Regiment conducted various operations and lost only ten members in active service.
On 13 March 1998 the Regiment received their coulours. On 17 July 2023 the Unit became 45 years of age.
