About the estate
The Château de la Vieille Cure dates back to 1780. The majority of the vineyard faces south-east along the Isle River, 65 metres above sea level. It was purchased in 1986 by American collectors who were fascinated by the quality of the vineyard. They renovated the property to play to its strengths and thus enhance the reputation of the estate. Château La Vieille Cure is a wine to age and it is recommended to wait at least ten years to allow the aromas to develop and the tannins to soften. It delivers fruity, smoky and toasted aromas and is warm, full and generous on the palate.

Fronsac:
Fronsac is a beautiful appellation north of Pomerol. From the high slopes and rolling land you can look down on the flat terrain of Pomerol and believe that the terroir here is superior. There is some truth in this, because the wines are of a very high standard: ripe, rich and fruity with good tannins and the ability to age, these are wines that can also be enjoyed young. They are also considerably cheaper than the wines from St. Emilion and Pomerol, although in the 18th century the opposite was true.
Fronsac has a rich history. The Romans lived and traded here and created the famous Gallic market as well as an impressive altar. Charlemagne, the Vikings and Cardinal Richelieu all played a part in the history of Fronsac. Today there are officially two appellations Fronsac and Canon Fronsac, although some producers simply use the simpler name. Canon Fronsac tends to have more sand and gravel in the soil than the clay and limestone of Fronsac. Both appellations benefit from the effect of the Dordogne River which they face.
