Secla - Portuguese pottery - Dish / Ashtray by Ferreira da Silva (1928-2016)
Measuring approx - 10cm x 15cm x 3.2 cm, marked with the hallmark of Ferreira da Silva and SECLA. This plate was sold with small rubber feet and could function as an ashtray or other container:
Portuguese modernist ceramics - Circa 1960's
Marked on the base Secla Portugal "53" and signed - I believe this to be the signature of Ferreira da Silva (1928- 2016). Ferreira da Silva came to Secla in the 1950's. The number "53" is not the year it was made, rather the model / decor number.
It is a very rare piece made from his hand, not a mass produced piece.
The piece is glazed, it is orange yellow / gold and black on an earthenware base. It has 2 of its original rubber feet (with 2 replacement felt added for stability.
