Vintage Art Deco Gray's Pottery "Gloria Lustre" Plate 26cm Diameter - SUSIE COOPER worked for Grays Pottery at this time and decorated many Gloria Pieces.
Vintage Hand painted Art Deco Gray's Pottery "Gloria Lustre" ware Plate which measures 26cm diameter.
The decoration appears to be of stylised fruit / Oranges? Plums / Grapes etc.Although the Fruit resemblance is my own personal opinion.
The plate incorporates, many colours on a pure white porcelain background including: Orange, Blue, Gold, Purple / Pink & Red.
The Back stamp Firmly fixes the date to between 1925-28. Stamp which is a bronze colour and measures 20mm x 20mm.
The origin of the designation Gloria Lustre is unknown but the name comes into use when Gordon Forsyth (the then Superintendent of Art Education in Stoke-on-Trent and a friend of AE Gray) collaborated in the production of lustre ware:
‘An outstanding feature will be the Gloria lustre, wherein the firm have utilised in some measure the services of Mr Gordon Forsyth’ (Pottery & Glass Record February 1923 page 358).
There are also additional marks on the back, including numbers "5359" and a monogram(possibly the artist signature?
The Piece is in very good, used condition, No Chips No Cracks, light surface wear to the design - Please study the photos to gauge the condition for yourself.
COD / Collection - Courier - Combined postage offered.
