Gijsbert Hanekroot (Brussels, 1945) started his career in 1969 and worked for magazines and newspapers in the 1970s. His career as a photojournalist fits in perfectly with the explosion of the rock scene and he masterfully documented this golden age of music history - and photographed many of the greatest icons of the time. Hanekroot about this photo; "I took this photo when I was still an amateur. I was 18 years old. But it meets my professional standard. I'm quite proud of it."
Gijsbert strived to capture images that revealed the man behind the musician. Trying to express a deeper truth about his subjects resulted in portraits that are natural and intimate, relaxed and sincere. And in dazzling concert photos. The photographer is represented by galleries in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Madrid, London, Bologna, Munich, Belgrade, Brooklyn and Schiedam, Netherlands.
