-   Pieter Johannes Alexander Wagemans, lived and worked in The Hague all his life; he was born and died there.  At a certain point he decides to earn his living as a painter. According to De Scheen, he has painted 'a mass of cityscapes', including historic sites in The Hague, Leiden, Delft, Dordrecht, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. According to the same artists' encyclopedia, his work is generally of such high quality that several of his paintings have been forged in terms of signature to J.C.K. Klinkenberg (1852-1924), also a painter from The Hague, but of greater stature, whose work is therefore considerably more expensive.
Wagemans is described as an outspoken 'colourist in a traditional realistic style'. His work is still very popular, no doubt because it evokes nostalgic feelings in many people.
