Review: This book is exactly what its title says. If you are new to relief carving, you might think that realistic relief carving involves simply in the carving half round. But this approach will not be satisfactory. This book shows to how even very shallow relief can be amazingly realistic if proper perspective is used. The book has several simple projects in the beginning to help you master the basic principles. Then you can carve a very nice nautical scene which is detailed step by step with ample photos. He uses both standard wood carver's hand tools such as gouges and also power tools including a router and a dremel. I rated this a 5 because of the efective way the content is organized and the detail provided.
Review: I feel this book is well worth its cost. As an inexperienced carver I was looking for some detailed hints that would improve my work. Mr. Schroeder has some valuable advice that we should all implement when creating a masterpiece. This book is geared to the relief carver.
