Bijzonder boek over het leven en het werk van de in San Francisco geboren Patricia Torley, die zich dankzij de ontmoeting met kunstenaar en later-echtgenoot Peter Gentenaar in Rijswijk vestigde. Het boek verscheen in 1999 t.g.v. de tentoonstelling van het werk van Pat Gentenaar – Torly in het Museum Rijswijk van 20.02 t.e.m. 21.03.1999

De kunstenares: I love paper’s natural, organic structure and have gradually discovered the world of varieties in fibers.

Over the years, I developed my technique of pulp painting with (pigmented) paper fibers in a water solution. My husband Peter’s Hollander beater design is ideal for milling and pigmenting the paper fibers for use on a vacuum table.  Besides using a wide range of fibers, the milling time of each fiber can be varied to create an even larger variety in my pallet. Using the colored pulps, I pour thin, often transparent, layers of pulp, next to and on top of each other, sometimes shaping them with a knife, as I work.  As the water follows gravity, I prefer to work with the front of the painting on the surface of the vacuum table, and gradually build up the pulp layers to the back, finishing with a layer of hemp pulp overall and then a layer of cotton pulp overall, to act as a cushion for drying on a board.

Water, in all its forms, is one of my favorite subjects, and plant life.  It seems logical, since they are the basis of paper!
