The sport of boxing is known as the “sweet science” for its paradoxical fusion of brutality and elegance, explosiveness and chesslike strategic sophistication. Growing up in an immigrant Puerto Rican household in the U.S. during the 1970s and 1980s, artist Carlos Rolon - aka Dzine - connected with his father by watching prize fights on TV, like the famous 1980 “No Más” fight between Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard.

In his new book Boxed, Rolon creates an homage to boxing, exploring how the sport has been a source of inspiration and metaphor for artists. Boxed is in part a tribute to Rolon’s father. This publication follows his previous book, Nailed, which he created as a love letter to his mother. Along with new work by Rolon, Boxed presents work by Andreas Gursky, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, Gary Simmons, Ed Ruscha, and others.
