Twenty years ago, in the remote Indonesian province of Irian Jaya, which forms the eastern half of New Guinea, tribal warfare was a way of life and headhunting was not unknown. Today, new immigrants and multinational mining and logging companies vie for a stake in this farthermost corner of the Indonesian Archipelago. Twenty years from now, will anything remain of the traditional way of live, or will it have gone the way of so many other ancient cultures in the path of modern man?
