In 2002 rolde deze Mercedes Sprinter van de band voor één specifieke opdrachtgever: het Nederlandse Bommenkommando. Jarenlang onderdeel van een vloot die op militaire precisie onderhouden werd. De motor, versnellingsbak en luchtvering zijn in uitstekende staat — dit is een voertuig dat gebouwd is om eeuwig mee te gaan.

Nu is hij omgebouwd tot campervan. En dat is waar het interessant wordt.

We hebben jaren besteed aan de technische basis. Niet omdat het moest, maar omdat we het goed wilden doen. Het elektrische systeem is professioneel niveau: 460W Amerisolar zonnepaneel, 280Ah lithiumbatterij, Victron Multiplus omvormer voor 230V. De Webasto standkachel, Indel B compressorkoelkast, inductiekookplaat en volledige waterinstallatie met grijswatertank — alles werkt. Het 200x160cm bed klapt om tot een zithoek met draaibare tafel. Er is airco. Er is luchtvering. APK geldig tot Juni 2027 — dus het eerste jaar rij je zonder omkijken.

We gebruiken hem. We gaan er gewoon mee op vakantie. Hij doet precies wat hij moet doen.

Vorig jaar hebben we de van laten ombouwen naar een 3-zitter — we verwachtten onze eerste kindje en wilden er met z’n drieën op uit. Inmiddels weten we dat kamperen met een baby toch wat anders is dan we ons hadden voorgesteld. Vandaar.

Wat we nooit zijn toegekomen: de laatste 10% aan interieurafwerking. De techniek vroeg alle aandacht — en eerlijk gezegd is dat ook waar het geld en de tijd naartoe gaat bij een camperombouw. Het resultaat is een van die zeldzame situaties: een volledig functionele, mechanisch vlekkeloze campervan die wacht op iemand met smaak en een visie voor het interieur.

Dit is niet de camper voor wie kant-en-klaar wil. Dit is de camper voor wie toch zijn eigen stempel had willen drukken — maar niet jaren wil klussen aan techniek voordat het leuke deel begint. Het harde werk is gedaan. Het leuke werk is voor jou. En daar betaal je navenant minder voor.

Zitconfiguratie: De van is momenteel officieel gekeurd en geregistreerd als 3-zitter. De originele 2-zitterstoel is beschikbaar als je de voorkeur geeft aan de klassieke opstelling — met als bijkomend voordeel dat je vanuit de rijcabine rechtstreeks naar het woongedeelte kunt lopen zonder de auto te verlaten. Ideaal onderweg.

In 2002 this Mercedes Sprinter rolled off the line for one specific customer: the Dutch Bomb Disposal Unit (Bommenkommando). For years it was part of a fleet maintained to military precision. The engine, gearbox and air suspension are in excellent condition — this is a vehicle built to last forever.

It’s now been converted into a campervan. And that’s where it gets interesting.

We spent years on the technical foundation. Not because we had to, but because we wanted to do it properly. The electrical system is professional grade: 460W Amerisolar solar panel, 280Ah lithium battery, Victron Multiplus inverter for 230V. The Webasto diesel heater, Indel B compressor fridge, induction hob and full water installation with grey water tank — everything works. The 200x160cm bed folds into a seating area with a rotating table. There’s airco. There’s air suspension. MOT valid until June 2027 — so you drive the first year without a worry.

We use it. We take it on holiday. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do.

Last year we had the van officially converted to a 3-seater — we were expecting our first baby and wanted to hit the road as a family of three. We’ve since discovered that camping with an infant is a little different from what we’d imagined. Hence the sale.

What we never got around to: the last 10% of interior finishing. The technical build took all the attention — and honestly, that’s where the money and time goes in any camper conversion. The result is one of those rare situations: a fully functional, mechanically sound campervan waiting for someone with taste and a vision for the interior.

This is not the van for someone who wants turnkey. This is the van for someone who would have put their own stamp on the interior anyway — but doesn’t want to spend years on technical groundwork before the fun part begins. The hard work is done. The fun part is yours. And the price reflects that.

Seating configuration: The van is currently officially registered and approved as a 3-seater. The original 2-seater bench is available if you prefer the classic setup — with the added benefit of being able to walk directly from the driving cabin to the living area without leaving the vehicle. Very handy on long drives.
