clever and thoughtful program here ensures that you get to know John Jenkins' work from different sides and be entertained in the best way. Of the approximately 800 works left by Jenkins, here are four “Fantasy Suites” (one fantasy plus two shorter [dance] movements), as well as a suite for viola da gamba solo from an Austrian manuscript and three shorter pieces, an “Aria”, an “Aria”, an “Division” overwritten piece and a sonata. Jenkins was probably the first British composer to write explicitly for violin, and right from the beginning of the CD you can hear the “Aria” in A major, a cheerful piece from the late work
