This is a wonderful collection of his greatest hits. The songs are all original as I remember them from my childhood.

It isn’t often you come across one song that turned two different artists into legitimate One-Hit Wonders in terms of the North American music scene, but that is the case with the catchy Italian tune Marina which, in late 1959, became the only such hit for both Willy Alberti and Rocco Granata.

Alberti, who was born Carel Verbrugge in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, performed in both the Dutch and Italian languages and had a string of European hits in the 1950s/60s, and his rendition finished at # 42 Billboard Pop Hot 100 on London 1888. Finding his version on CD, never mind the flipside Carasella (Canzone Allegra), is so far impossible.

Singer/accordionist Granata, born August 16, 1938 in Figline Vegliaturo, Italy, but raised in Belgium since the age of 10, also has numerous European hits to his credit (he’s apparently still going strong) and his version, on Laurie 3041, made the Top 40 at # 31 billed as Rocco Granata & The International Quintet. The hit side was first to be found in the 2001 Volume 4 of the 11-Volume multi-artist series Hey! Look What I Found, but until this album came out in 2004 from Silver Star it was impossible to find the B-side, Manuela (originally intended to be the A-side when it first came out in Europe).

Marina was a # 1 at that time in both Belgium and Germany and both sides are here in their original form in excellent sound reproduction. Although the remainder of the tracks will be of interest more to his European fans, those in the U.S. and Canada who understand the languages used will find them appealing.
