Originally conceived as XENOPHOBIA, the album XPECTATION was ultimately released in 2003 as a limited digital-only release. It marked Prince's first fully instrumental album under his own name, featuring his longtime collaborators such as Candy Dulfer, Rhonda Smith, and John Blackwell, along with violinist Vanessa-Mae. The album presents a jazzy, improvisational sound that reflects the "new direction in music" noted in the sub-credit—an ambitious departure into uncharted territory for Prince.
This Expanded Edition not only includes the previously unreleased-on-CD original album, but also adds rare studio material from the same era and live versions of tracks like “XOTICA” and “XENOPHOBIA.” CD2 features a curated selection of high-quality soundboard recordings from the One Nite Alone Tour 2002, capturing electrifying live performances with rotating saxophonists such as Maceo Parker, Eric Leeds, and Candy Dulfer.
