Pre-Emphasis version meaning:
A high frequency boost is added to the music on the CD ("pre-emphasis"), and is taken away when played back ("de-emphasis").
Any such CD needs to have a "flag" in it which tells a CD player to apply de-emphasis. If the CD player doesn't recognize the flag, or if you use software to rip the music off the CD without recognizing the flag, then you will get music that has boosted high frequencies.
