Beschrijving

The Art of Walking is the fourth studio album by American experimental rock band Pere Ubu, released in June 1980. This album marks a significant shift in the band's sound, largely due to the addition of guitarist Mayo Thompson from The Red Krayola. Thompson's influence steered the music towards greater abstraction and deconstruction, moving away from the more primal rock elements of earlier works. The album delves into themes of introspection and the nuances of everyday experiences, reflecting a more avant-garde approach to songwriting and composition.

Tracklist:

  • Go
  • Rhapsody in Pink
  • Arabia
  • Young Miles in the Basement
  • Misery Goats
  • Loop
  • Rounder
  • Birdies
  • Lost in Art
  • Horses
  • Crush

This Horn Notably, the track "Horses" is a reinterpretation of a song originally featured on Mayo Thompson's 1970 solo album, Corky's Debt to His Father. Additionally, the album's initial U.S. pressing included a vocal overdub version of "Arabia," differing from the instrumental mix found on the original UK release. Later reissues have addressed this discrepancy, often including both versions for listeners.

The Art of Walking
stands as a testament to Pere Ubu's willingness to evolve and challenge musical norms, offering listeners a complex and thought-provoking auditory experience.
