Apple Airport Express A1392

The Apple AirPort Express A1392, introduced in 2012, is the second and final generation of Apple’s compact and versatile wireless access point. Unlike the larger AirPort Extreme, the Express was designed to be portable, flexible, and multifunctional—serving as a Wi-Fi base station, wireless extender, AirPlay receiver, and even a basic USB print server.

The A1392 supports dual-band 802.11n Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), allowing it to handle light networking tasks in both frequency ranges. It includes a WAN port, a LAN port, a USB 2.0 port for printer sharing, and a 3.5mm audio jack that doubles as both analog and optical digital audio output—making it a popular AirPlay target for streaming music to older audio systems.

The Express is managed through Apple’s AirPort Utility, available on iOS, macOS, and Windows. It integrates seamlessly into all-Apple networking setups and can function in several modes:
• Wireless access point (creating a new network)
• Wireless extender (expanding an existing Apple network)
• Client mode (joining an existing network for AirPlay or printing only)
• Wired bridge (connected via Ethernet to a router to act as AirPlay receiver or small wired hub)
