Jan Akkerman’s Ibanez 2670-NT Artwood Double Neck (circa 1975 - 1976).
Includes handwritten signed letter (letter of authenticity) from Jan Akkerman’s guitar luthier Anno Galama and original hard case with engraved name Jan Akkerman.
This is the double neck that belonged to the legendary guitarist Jan Akkerman (FOCUS). He used this guitar extensively in the seventies for concerts and recordings with Kaz Lux from Brainbox. The most well known recordings Akkerman did with this particular guitar were done for the famous album ELI (1976) with Kaz Lux. During that period Akkerman also played this guitar during the ELI tour with Kaz Lux. This album won an Edison Award for Best Album in 1976, one of the very best albums in Dutch music history. This double neck can also be heard on the iconic album Jan Akkerman (1977) and PRISM ft. Tony Scott (1977).
Jan Akkerman also used this Ibanez 2670 Double Neck for the recording of Herman Brood’s debut album called Street. This guitar can be heard during the song Romanza Di Cavalli and is also featured on the album artwork cover.
This double neck was Akkerman’s guitar of choice in the studio and on stage for many years. The legendary guitar tech luthier Anno Galama has modified this particular guitar several times to Akkerman’s wishes. Various modifications have been made regarding pickup configuration. Previously seen with Gibson LP signature pickups (wider cavities for pickups in body), but eventually reverted to EMG pickups with stereo wiring. Furthermore, custom switch, wiring and knob modifications.
The original natural color of the body has been given a black refinish, Anno Galama told this was because the natural color was 'too white' on stage.
This double neck can be seen in videos and photos on the internet. You can also see a video on YouTube where Akkerman used this double neck during a performance on television in the BBC music program The Old Gray Whistle Test (search: Jan Akkerman and Kaz Lux tranquillizer). This was during his UK tour with Kaz Lux from Brainbox after the successful years with Focus. The double neck can be seen on various CD covers and in a documentary about Akkerman. Another video shows Jan Akkerman in the studio with this guitar with Joachim Kühn (1978) NDR Film on YouTube.
